I'm a member of the Cognitive and Media Systems research group at the the Center for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra (CISUC). I also colaborate with the and Adaptive Computation Group at CISUC. My main research interests are in the areas of Music Information Retrieval (MIR) and Clinical Informatics. The commom research "hat" is the study of signal processing, feature engineering, pattern recognition, data mining and machine learning techniques applied to bio and musical signals.

Regarding MIR, lately I've been working on Music Emotion Recognition (MER), where my goal is to devise methods for emotion-based analysis, classification and retrieval of recorded music. In the past, I've addressed the problem of melody detection in polyphonic audio. As for clinical informatics, I'm presently investigating methods for the automatic detection of lung adventitious sounds, namely, crackles and wheezes, as well as cough. In the past, I've tackled the estimation of systolic time intervals (PEP and LVET) based mostly on heart sounds. Moreover, I'm also working on noise detection and classification of murmur, again using heart sounds.
